McKinlay, Margaret

Margaret (Maggie) was born in 1853 to James McKinlay and Margaret McMillan.  She died on November 20, 1941.

Margaret married Angus McKinlay on January 11, 1876.  Margaret McKinlay’s maiden name was also McKinlay. It is spelled exactly the same as her married name.  It has been said that Angus and Margaret were not related.

Angus died when Alexander was only 3 years old.  Shortly after Angus died, Margaret moved to 16 Brunswick Avenue in Toronto, Ontario. It was close to the University of Toronto and Margaret rented out rooms to U of T students so she could feed her children. She also worked as a nurse or nurse's aid.  In her later years, Margaret lived at 761 Euclid Avenue with her daughters, Isabella Lyla and Margaret Edna.
