McKinlay, Barbara Jessie

Barbara Jessie McKinlay was born on February 11, 1889 to Margaret and Angus McKinlay in Georgetown Ontario.  She had five siblings:  Isabella Lyla (1877), Margaret Edna (1881), Archibald Franklin (1883), James Murray (1886), Alexander Nicoll (1891).

Her father Angus died at the age of 47 in 1884 in Georgetown, Ontario.  After his death, his wife Margaret moved to 16 Brunswick Avenue in Toronto with her children.  Margaret took in borders from the University of Toronto to help support her family.  One of the borders was a young dental student by the name of Clement James Devine.

Jessie married Clement Devine and moved to Beaverton, Ontario where they had 8 children:  Margaret, James, Arthur Franklin, John, Russell, Joseph, William and Barbara.

Jessie was a jolly, happy, fun mother who loved her life.  She was a very pleasant woman who was always cooking.

She died on Jan 5, 1974.

  1. Jessie's sons James "Jim". Arthur Franklin "Frank", Russel, and Joe enlisted to serve Canada during the Second World War. The only one to see service overseas was Frank. Frank was the first to enlist in 1938 and served Dental Corp. He die during the Italian campaign in July 1944 and was buried in Caserta, Italy.
